The study garnered interesting results regarding lottery winners and their families.

A total of £1.615 billion has been invested in their children and their futures; resulting in 510 children millionaires created by winning parents. This excludes gifts given to family members.

It concluded 3270 children of winners are already, or will be when they grow up, a millionaire as a result of the parents’ win.

I imagine Adrian Bayford’s children can’t wait for Christmas this year.

The amount of money spent on gifts is staggering.

A total of £1.17 billion has been spent on gifts to family and friends. These gifts ranged from cars, holidays, home improvements and even mortgages.

Yes, a total of 3700 mortgages of family and friends have been paid off by the lottery winners. Similarly, 390 winners simply gave their previous home to a friend or family member.

Lottery & EuroMillions News Roundup

Charlie Putman, our in-house writer, has been busy finding Lottery-themed news stories over the past week, and he’s come back with some fantastic tales that I want to share with you.

Pensioner lands £4 million jackpot.

Life has suddenly got very exciting for old-aged-pensioner Thomas Foden. After scooping the UK’s first quadruple Lotto rollover jackpot on Saturday 29^th September, Mr. Foden suddenly finds his pension pot grow to over £3.9 million.

Talking to ITV news, Mr. Foden vowed he always knew he was going to win the lottery: “I always said we’d have a big win and it’s a surprise now it’s actually come true.”

Now that’s some premonition! An interesting fact from this tale is Mr. Foden only recently changed where he purchases his Lottery tickets; he decided to change from buying his tickets at local convenience store Fags and Mags to the, far luckier in his case, Costcutter supermarket.

Sheffield Cathedral receives Lottery makeover

The stunning, 13^th Century city centre Sheffield Cathedral has received a £1.3 million grant from the National Lottery. Those in charge of restoration at Sheffield Cathedral hope that the money will go to improve the accessibility of this historic monument to encourage visitors, whilst at the same time restoring it to its former glory. It wasn’t too long ago since Sheffield also received Lottery funding to restore the Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet, an 18^th steel works in the heart of the city.

In my opinion, it may be worth keeping an eye on Sheffield over the next year and think about paying a visit over the summer of 2013 to see the positive changes made by Lottery funding!

The humble tale of Adrian Bayford

I felt I must share this wonderful tale because I was touched by Adrian’s strength of character. Upon winning the second-largest Lottery jackpot in British history, Mr Bayford and his wife Gillian secured a £148 million cheque.

However, what happened next is the most interesting part: rather than jetting off to a sun-soaked island in the Caribbean, the Bayford’s frugally opted for a family trip to Scotland on-board an Easyjet plane.

Once Adrian had battled the wind and rain of Scotland, he went straight back to work as the co-owner of a small music shop in Suffolk.

For some lucky winners, their life is totally transformed by winning the lottery. For others, as in Adrian Bayford’s case, it’s more about keeping the life you had, just with a very tidy bank balance!
